St Catherine's Primary School Regional Winner 2023, Green Entrepreneurs - Wales & West

After much research, fundraising and courses for two staff, St Catherine's Primary bought 2 bee hives with established colonies in May 2022.
Bee Club started that month and keen Year 5 and 6 pupils were able to attend Bee Club weekly after school. During Bee Club pupils would wear suits and help check the hives and learn all about the bee husbandry. 

In August 2022, they harvested the first honey crop, using labels designed by Bee Club members on their honey jars. The honey was sold to raise more funds for Bee Club.  Funds raised from selling an amazing 23kg of honey have been reinvested into more bee-keeping suits, books tools, equipment and replacement frames.

The school will be using its prize money to help enhance the project and the bee-keeping experience for the pupils.
