Benefits of continuous school garden provision.

At Abererch, they see many benefits arising from gardening for the mental well-being of both staff and pupils. Gardening is now an essential part of the school's vision and curriculum. So far this year they have built a "community shed" that will be used as a base for the pupils, staff and community members to all interact and benefit from being in the school garden. The children have harvested garlic and leeks, and have planted new potatoes, that will be sold to parents; this helps to raise the children's awareness of the importance of food miles, and their own carbon footprint.

The school has a newly-established wildflower space, where the children will be working with a specialist to learn about the importance of wildflowers.  Wildlife all sorts is encouraged to visit the garden too, with a very busy bug hotel and a few hedgehog houses.
